Testimonials

Below are some comments from some of our past clients who wanted to let you know about the time they had with us.

“My friend and I, Mick Gee of Anglers World Holidays, decided to visit the region of Extremadura in Spain during summer 2010. Mick was on a trip to ascertain course fishing venues. Our guide for the week was Alan Hughes of Extremadura Fishing.

We fished in extremely difficult conditions in July, baking hot sun, clear waters and bright skies.

On meeting Alan it was our pleasure to immediately sense his passion for angling and his keenness to help in anyway he could. I felt at ease in his company straight away. Alan is fun to be with and a real genuine guy, in fact we have become friends since our trip.

The waters of Extremadura are vast and without knowledge of access and locations we would not have had a chance. In difficult conditions we caught Carp, Barbel and Catfish (channel). For anyone prepared to fish throughout the night in July and August the results would have been excellent. The tackle supplied by Alan is excellent, no need to take anything with you bar favourite hooks and end tackle items.

Alan’s partner, Susan, prepared delicious food for us to eat on the bank. Susan is a lovely lady too, nothing too much trouble and a great sense of humour.

I could not have asked for a more helpful guide. Over many years I have fished different locations with different people, Alan is the best. When spending money on a holiday it was a privilege to be with someone who is genuine, knowledgeable and honest. For anyone planning a trip to this area to fish I would have no hesitation in recommending Alan and Susan at Extremadura fishing.

If you require any further recommendation please do not hesitate to contact Alan for my number.

Yours sincerely

Steve Raisin”

Hi Alan,

Thank you for looking after us during our vacation in Extremadura, The time we spent with you was most enjoyable to say the least. Your service was at the top end for marks for the fishing, the locations you took us to were panoramic and peaceful, The food was delicious and plentiful, we couldn’t of asked for a better guide and hostess. We wish you all the success in the future and look forward to seeing you again next year.

Best wishes

Hi Alan,
now I have my E’mail up & running I would just like to thank you once again for the way you made our holiday really memorable.
I can honestly say that the effort & detail you gave us resulted in the wonderful catches we had. With crusians, the like I have never seen before, bulging nets of 42 fish to five pounds plus, carp to over twenty five pounds and tench to over eight pounds, not forgetting the odd barbel or two, this has to rank among one the best of holidays yet.
Apart from the fishing, I must say that the way the day is organised, with the delicious meals with wine by the lakeside, would finish off the day perfectly. You’ve definitely got a winner there.
I hope to get a date for comming over next month when we can try out some more venues, as i’m sure there is even more to come.
Best wishes & tight lines

Found Alan our guide very friendly and knowledgeable. He made us very welcome.
I had a very good catch rate in such a short time, for such a big water, and would definitely like to return for a much longer period.
Stunning scenery, excellent weather.

  1. With over thirty years experience of fishing holidays between us,myself and my fishing buddy Pete have witnessed all kinds of service and guiding and we have to say that Alan and Sue have been the very best we have had.
From the moment we were picked up at the airport by Alan and his Spanish friend Minolo nothing was too much trouble for his team.
A typical day was up at 6.45am,breakfast at the excellent Plaza Hotel before Alan picked us up at 7.30.
We would then drive to a specially selected area to fish on the mighty Guadiana and Zujar systems which are basically dammed rivers which flood into great bays of water, very fishy.
Alan would then proceed to do his utmost to help you catch the fish of your dreams which happened on many occasions including Comizo barbel to 6lb common carp to 15lb and best of all, mighty great Crucians to over 5lbs,magnificent!
Lunch arrived around 1 o clock which was a delicious selection of cold meats, cheeses, breads and salads, washed down with cold beer.
We would continue fishing in the afternoon catching pure wild fish that had never seen a hook before,on one day we caught near 300lbs of common and Crucian carp, imagine catching scale perfect Crucians, one a chuck, like bars of silver averaging over 3.5lbs each, fantastic fishing by anyones standards.
At around 7 o clock,Minolo would bring us our evening meal on the bank which consisted of the best fresh, home cooked food imaginable made by Sue,and a lovely bottle of red to compliment, extremely pleasant eating fantastic food, catching fantastic fish in fantastic countryside with fantastic company.
We continued fishing up until dusk then packed away before nipping to Alans favourite bar Vicentes for a couple of cool ones before being dropped of at the hotel to shower, rest and do it all again the next day.
If you think this sounds too good to be true, believe me it isn`t,for anyone contemplating a fishing holiday of a lifetime at Extramudera, contact Alan and his team and you will fulfill all of your dreams.

We would like to thank you for
an excellent fishing trip and all your hard work, you worked
So hard for us. It was a nice touch to stay with us at the
Bank whist we fished. Other guides have just dropped us off.
We all had a good laugh, although the weather was not on our side
    Cheers again.

  3. Hi Alan

I’d like to send just a note of thanks for yet another memorable holiday. I was lucky to miss the rain the previous week but I don’t think luck played a part when you took me to a completely new set of venues as these were again full of fish. Large crusians to 51/4lb with the net weighing over 100lb, tench to 51/2lb & carp to 19lb.
This area has so much to offer that you neeed never fish the same place twice, although I can’t wait to revisit river/lake area with it’s fantastic wildlife performing in front of us as we were pulling out carp one after the other.
Thanks again to Susan for the super meals and i’ll see you again on 22nd May.

    Kind regards

    Paul

  5. Sorry its took so long alan I’ve been really busy with work, but I would just like to thank you and sue for the great hospitality and the brilliant experience that I had when I came over in april, brilliant fishing something different everyday, the barbel & the nets of fish we had were something special, and not to mention the fantastic meals. Once again thanks for a great time! I have spoken to some other anglers in our club about your place and what you do, the are going to contact you about coming out to you next year. We lookforward Seeing you again sometime in the near future. Darren Rushton

  6. Hi Alan
    24 Sept 2011
Jusr like to say what a great time we had, the places we visited were stunning just for the locations alone and the food in the town. As we know the weather was really a bit too hot but still we enjoyed good sport and all of us caught a PB carp and lost just as many!! We have enough tales to keep us going until we can get back again.
You were a great companion and please say hola to Manolo. We cannot wait to get back we all wish you and Sue all the best and hope to see you soon.
    Cheers.

  7. Dee and I went over to Extremadura for some coarse fishing, not particularly bothered with tryng to find monster fish, simply, a weeks fishing and tranquility.

We caught; Common Carp, Mirror Carp, Crucian Carp, Tench, Bass, Pike and Sunfish. Biggest carp weighed in at 13lbsish but fought like a 20 pounder (not that I would know)

I cannot speak highly enough of Alan Hughes in Talarrubias and his skills a fishing guide.

We fished for four days, Alan picking us up at about 9.00 am and getting back at about 8.30 – 9.00 pm most evenings.

We did not require any gear, Alan supplied it all, including bait and drinks and a packed lunch.

The area is fantastic, even in its sun bleached state, and we saw, Black Eagles, Vultures (by the score), Herons, Blue Magpie and other variety of bird life along with deer and wild boar.

The amount of water is so vast that you really do need someone who knows the where and how, otherwise one might just tip up and bung yer line in where there are none.

The countryside is rolling hills, meandering rivers, deep lakes and dams, and jagged mountains. It is really stunning.

We stayed with a couple called Brian and Val who are very keen fisher people and they looked after us extremely well; to the point opf stretching my waistband even more.

Personally; when we go again it will be on a B&B basis as it is nice to get out and about a bit, and the tapas are great.

As I said at outset, I really cannot speak highly enough and would encourage you to give it a go.

    Kind regards

    Allan & Dee

  8. Arrived in Madrid at the start of our hols and were picked up by Alan our guide as arranged, no messing about which was great. Arrived safely at our hotel after a few stops at some local pubs for a wee beer and a chat about the fishing we were going to experience. Alan was very friendly and enthusiastic which is Alan in a nutshell, the fishing was great and Alan was well up for suggestions as regards the fishing and start times. Even though Alan was poorly for 3days he still made all pre arranged fishing commitments with a smile and plenty of free advice and tips, all in all we had a great fishing adventure and hope to return next april for the big girls and some more arm pulling and great fishing banter with Alan, a top notch friendly guide

This fishing holidays where an incredibly memorable experience catching lots and lots BIG BIG fish in lovely autumn sceneries with a peaceful panoramic.
Beautiful warm weather with 18°C in the last half of November.
Alan was a perfect guide, teacher and gentleman helping me with BIG BIG fish,
    taken care for everything.
Susan made me very welcome in here house, excellent accommodation and cooking.
I will come back for many times special in the wintertime for longer weekends.

  10. Hi, everybody.
I am one of four clients fishing with Alan last weekend. I´m writing on behalf of my friends, as we are all Spanish (yes, extremadurafishing is not only for people outside Spain). We live about 200 kms from Orellana and it’s impossible for us to do any prebaiting for a weekend sessions, so we contacted Alan who happily agreed to do the work for us, so when we arrived on Friday evening and were taken to our swims by his ‘socio’, Manolo who explained distances to cast and all the details, so all we had to do was to cast our rods out and wait. First night we had plenty of liners (a good sign that fish were in the baited area) but we didn’t get any fish as they didn’t seem to like our boilies. Next morning Alan came and brought some Nutrabaits boilies with him, which we used immediately in our rigs. The results? two carp, 17 and 21 KILOS no pounds, and a tench which tipped the scales to 5 KILOS and which I suppose Alan will have uploaded by now.
This weekend was only a way to gauge the lake in an area we didn’t know. Now that Easter is just round the corner, we have already booked our trip with Alan. Although we have more time to feed the area and try fishing on our own, we will trust Alan and Manolo at EXTREMADURAFISHING to do the most difficult part for us.
    Amigos, hasta pronto

  11. Hello Alan,

First of all, Charles and I would like to thank you and Susan for a most enjoyable holiday.

We really liked the house, the area, the fishing and so on.

We found the best fishing in Garcia de Sola, where we caught a fair number of black bass. We also saw (but did not catch) some pike.

We tried the Guadiana and Orellana but had no success. Perhaps it was just not our lucky day.

I am sorry that we were unable to talk before we left. In fact, it took us a long time to return the hire car at Madrid airport (because of the inadequate signage at the airport). Then Charles mislaid his sunglasses and we had to go back to the car rental office to find them. So we had to rush to catch the plane in the end.

I am sure that we will be back soon. If there is anything that you would like me to do for you in the UK, please let me know.

    Kind regards,

    Richard

  12. Having just returned from fishing in Spain I have had a great time. Many mirror and common carp were caught on a regular basis of a good size that never knew when to stop fighting as well as barbel of around five to six pounds. The accommodation was excellent and transportation from and back to the airport was spot on. Breakfasts and evening meals were at the local restaurant and very reasonably priced. We were well looked after by Alan of Extremadura fishing holidays who has a wealth of local knowledge of the lakes in and around Talarrubias surrounded by beautiful unspoiled scenery.

We were taken daily to the most productive areas to fish and helpful advice was always readily available. Overall we all had a wonderful time and I would certainly want to return again having seen a specimen 42lb common carp caught that very morning. The area offers great potential and exiting fishing for carp, tench, barbel and crucians of a very impressive size. Thanks Alan for making it a great fishing holiday.

  13. Hi Alan and Sue!
I just wanted to say what a fantastic week I’ve had – totally awesome! The fishing and locations have been amazing and your hospitality has been second to none! You’ve really looked after me and made sure I’ve had a wonderful holiday – THANK YOU!!

I’ll definitely be recommending Extremadura Fishing to everyone, in fact, I’ve started already!! My diary’s open ready to book my next trip!!

Once again, thank you and speak to you soon.

    Sarah

  14. Hi Alan,

I just wanted to say a massive “thank you” from my son Luke and myself for a fantastic fishing holiday. The fishing was just as you said it would be, with lots of opportunities to fish totally different waters for different species.

Luke and I had so many highlights. For him, it would be lots of double figure carp in a day topped off with a 21 pounder from the margins on the last cast. For me it was having to empty a keep-net of crucians and barbel at lunchtime and then filling it up again in the afternoon after one of your excellent lunches. However, it is the sheer numbers and potential of the barbel fishing that will bring us back.

As well as the fishing we were in awe of the spectacular scenery and wildlife, the eagles and vultures in particular.

On top of the beautiful surroundings and great fishing, the company was excellent as well, both Steve and yourself were great fun (although Steve was much better and regular at making tea!). You took the time to really understand what we wanted from our holiday and then worked very hard on tailoring our holiday and delivering exactly that. This made the difference and you are a top guide as well as an ok fisherman…….well maybe a bit better than ok, but not as good as Steve and I.

    Thanks Alan…..see you next year.

    Paul and Luke

  15. Hi Alan,
Thanks from myself, Steve, paul and Kevin for our recent week fishing with you.
I have fished the Ebro for 10 years and Extremadura for the last three. Our trip with you was the best trip we have had. You worked very hard to find us different venues, the bait was spot on and the tackle perfect for each venue. Your assistance on the bank was invaluable especially for ‘novice’ Kev. We enjoyed our social time together with great food, drink and conversation. The accommodation was quite luxurious, definately the best we have ever enjoyed. All in all an excellent trip and we all look forward to meeting up with you again.
Anybody looking for a Spanish fishing experience should look no further. I cannot reccommend your services highly enough.
Best wishes to you and your family.
    Ian, Kevin, Paul and Steve.

  16. Hi Alan, Having just arrived home after my week of fishing with you in Extremadura. I have to thank you for your support and direction with all fishing matters. As a relitive novice to this type of fishing I would not have had such a wonderful time, and had so many many fish without you help. With so much water, rivers and lakes in the area we would not have a chance of catching without your knowledge and experience.
The week was fun and interesting meeting other fishermen and seeing all the wonderful scenery and catching lot of fish. Thank Sue for the wonderfull lunches she provided, also your attention for detail that makes for a most enjoyable fishing holiday. Brian

  17. We thats my wife Veronica and myself have recently returned from a 1500klm trip across Spain, where we spent a magical 3 weeks with Alan Hughes of Extremadura Fishing Fame….Alan was Ace, top notch, the perfect guide
from the time he picked us up in the mornings ,,,,sometime as early as 6am he gave his 100% undivided attention to my wife,,,(,as some of you know she is totally confined to a wheelchair ) which enabled me to also have a fishing holiday,,,so once again Alan thankyou,,we will certainly be looking forward to another visit in 2013 if not before….the fishing was excellent and one water produced over 1500lbs of fish for us during our stay,,,,for anyone looking for a special fishing holiday look no further than Extremadura Fishing….good luck for the future Alan you deserve it

  18. Without hesitation, the best fishing trip EVER. Alan and his friend Steve were kind, welcoming and made us feel right at home. They are good, kindhearted people with a real sense of humor and we enjoyed their company a lot.

Our decision to go fishing was kind of a spur of the moment idea. We weren’t really on a fishing holiday, and we went fishing for just one day. In those few hours, we caught 19 beautiful carp, which is awesome of course. Then again, even if we hadn’t caught al that fish, i’m sure it would still have been a wonderfull experience because of the great company, lovely food and stunning surroundings!

Thanks again Alan and Steve, you are the best!

Sept 2012: This was like the fishing I can recall from 20+ years ago. Using simple traditional techniques to catch pristine fish in tranquil unspoilt waters ( which is sadly all too much a rarity nowadays for the average angler ) In Alan you have an affable chappie whose knowledge of the vast local waters will not only give you the opportunity to fish for a range of species in a variety of venues but also a chance to visit some interesting local bars as well to drain a few cool ones. The pace of life here is a million miles away from the modern rat race and your holiday is tailored to how you want it (within reason :0) We can’t thank Alan & Sue enough for their kind hospitality and look forward to seeing them again next spring-time. Cheers Al & tight lines!

  20. Visited for three days as a bit of a fact finding trip with a view to doing something more substantial next year. The trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all 3 members of our party.

Alan’s knowledge of the local waters is excellent and his attentive service really helped us pick up fish that we might not otherwise have caught. His presence is never over bearing and (unlike other guides we’ve used) he is happy to leave us to get on with it and try new methods or tweaks to what we are doing. Having said that you don’t need slide rule precision to catch the fish here, unlie many of the waters back in the UK.
The accomodation is exactly what you’d need as an angler; clean, comfy what everything you need and none of the clutter you don’t, perfect!

The local bars are cheap and the food again just what you need after a day’s fishing, and all the locals are friendly and welcoming. So if you like a mixed fishing holiday with the emphasis on enjoyment with the chance to both “bag up” or go for a specimen then you’d not go far wrong with Alan. We are certainly planning on popping back for the full week. Thanks for everything Alan.

  21. Hi Alan

Thanks for a great week really enjoyed our visit, it was nice to catch up with you, have a laugh and visit some mind blowing venues for some extreme fishing. Also the scenery and wildlife was out of this world. Will Defiantly be coming back next year 🙂

Thanks again for a excellent week,
    See you again soon.
    Cheers Lee

  22. Having spent two weeks in Spain with Alan at ‘Extremadura fishing’ I had a most memorable time. It was common to catch over a 100lb of carp mainly mirrors which averaged around 7lbs. On one occasion I personally topped two hundred pounds, catching fish constantly throughout the day. Something I had never achieved before. One angler caught over fifty fish in a single session which must have meant he caught well in excess of three hundred pounds using conventional feeder tactics a couple of rod lengths out. The proper pegs are well spaced, not crowded and the fishing is relaxed and comfortable. Usually the weather is dry and fine. At other times Allen our competent guide took us to fish different waters which hold tench, barbel and crucians using similar methods. The accommodation was excellent and included packed lunches cool drinks and slices of refreshing water melon which is a must in the middle of the day. Off to the local friendly restaurant and bar at the end of the day for an evening meal. The only requirement is that you bring your own end tackle, lines and perhaps a suitable reel. A plentiful supply of ground bait is provided. Next time I go over I will bring three spools of 8 or 10lb line to change as line twist is a problem when catching such good quality fish and in such numbers. Overall it was a great fishing holiday with all the help and advice anyone could need who has not fished the area before.

    Thanks once again

    Paul

  23. That Alan, what can I say. His dedication, expertise and attention to detail is way beyond what we expected, out with us everyday showing us how and where. Alan picks us up and drives us to the days venue, he is on hand as you tackle up with his knowledge of the best rigs the best bait and the best place to put it.
I can not speak too highly of Alan and his setup, he made sure we had a swell time, in this idyllic fishing haven, and always time for a beer on the way home. The man delivered the best fishing holiday we have ever had.
    Thanks Alan, Tony

  24. I’ve just spent a very enjoyable week in the company of Alan Hughes. Although I originally booked a guided angling vacation with Extremadura Fishing, the trip turned out to be so much more.

Talarrubias is a small town lying at the heart of a very unspoilt corner of Europe, surrounded by rocky countryside and huge dammed river valleys. Although I caught truly wild and pristine Common and Crucian Carp (the latter of which are truly enormous), the unexpected elements of the holiday were really exceptional; from Griffon Vultures whirling above the road on the way to the ‘Secret’ Lake, to deer running wild across the countryside and stunning sunsets at the end of the day. We were fortunate enough to see an otter two days running, not through binoculars like the man on Autumnwatch, but up close and personal – and that was an incredible experience.

Extremadura Fishing is a combination of top class accommodation and service, hospitable locals, stunning scenery, superb and varied angling and a knowledgeable and experienced guide in the form of Alan Hughes. The only draw-back for me was my failure to catch a Commizo Barbel, so I suppose I shall just have to find the opportunity to go back some time soon.

  25. April 2013 was the 3rd fishing trip in the last 12 months & it didn’t disappoint. Fantastic scenery… big fish ( Carp / Tench/ Black Bass ) … and some monsters that got away to fight another day. Once again a big thank you to Al & Sue for sharing this wonderful part of Spain with us. Looking forward to seeing you all again next year as we look to track down a big pike or 2. Keep safe… tight lines and a big toast to St.Patrick lol!

  26. This was our second trip out to Spain with Alan having tried a 3 day “taster” late last year. Yet again Alan’s attention to service and detail were exemplary spending upwards of 8 hours a day with us to make sure we caught. The banter was, as always, enjoyable and “savage” in equal measure, adding to the personal and relaxed feeling of the holiday. Nothing seems to be too much for Alan to keep his customers happy.

All his advice is considered and well informaed without ramming it down your throat (we might even listen to it next time out as it wasn’t until the last day that we finally followed his advice of “just start off with one rod” and ended up having our best day)!

Talarrubias is a sleepy Spanish village with plenty of charm and cheap places to eat (4 of us with a couple of big beers each (plus a couple for “mein host”), tapas and a main meal all for under 50 euros).

We’ve already started planning our next trip back; big Carp on the horizon we hope?

  27. The week long fishing holiday with ‘Extremadura Fishing’ ticked all the boxes. So we are returning in October to an experience that we highly recommend.
We needed somewhere warm for my wife and plenty of fish on our hooks.
Rod picked us up from Madrid & drove through breathtaking countryside to the Hotel Plaza in Talarrubias. Alan was there to greet us and help with the language whilst signing in and choosing an evening meal.
As arranged, a prompt pick up by Alan with all the fishing tackle, baits, delicious packed lunches, etc took us on a fishing adventure every day. Soon fish including barbel, carp, catfish & many others were giving us the sport we were hoping for.
As Mary is very much a novice, Alan’s invaluable help with baiting, setting up rods etc. kept her keenly interested all week. Different locations & the stunning scenery was amazing. Booted eagles, vultures, hoopoes, bee eaters, azure magpies were just a few of the birds all around us. beautiful wild flowers were everywhere.
A few local beers and wines in the evening completed the days. There are big fish in those waters. ( We have seen some ) Perhaps one or two will be landed next time !!!!
We can always dream. Thank you Alan for looking after so well. We had a good laugh.
It was a holiday experience that we will never forget. Your good humor, patience and knowledge was brilliant. 10 /10 Looking forward to meeting you and your family on our next visit in October. Michael & Mary Davies. North Yorkshire

  28. Not long back from my third trip to Extremadura. As with my previous trips a great time was had by all. The weather was fantastic with only one day where temperatures slipped below 30 degrees and the fishing, apart from a couple of slowish days was very good with plenty of fish being caught. Our final day was exceptional for one of our party, Pete, who landed a total of 61 carp averaging out at approx 6lb each. Hard work!

However these trips can be as hectic or as relaxing as you want them to be, As ususal we were well looked after by Alan and are now counting down to our next visit in October.

All the best, see you in October.

    Phil

  29. I first got to read about Al’s exploits through Facebook a couple of years back ,and was fascinated by the countryside, birdlife and the fishing on show, plus his obvious passion and knowledge for the sport.
As an angler lucky enough to be sponsored by Korum ,I always enjoy something away from the normal predictable French trips, you know the score, named fish ,fat ,scaleless Mirrors with names ,and fishery owners creeping around after dark with nightsights looking for anglers not obeying the 101 rules ,add anglers intent on fishing 4 rods each, baitboats ,and boilies falling out of the sky like conkers from a tree .

Both Al and myself share a love of the wildlife and the birds, plus photography of which I am very fond. This intrigued Al,as he had seen my work on FB and thought a mutual trip could work out well .

Sadly my chum Paul Broadhurst had to drop out at the last moment ,not before organizing us a cheap airfare and hire car .Cheers buddy.Another long time friend Neil Appleton came along instead.

We arrived at 10-30 pm ,and straight to a local bar for Tapas and a well earned pint.
We stayed at Als other house ,where food had been bought prior to our visit ,as a result a hearty brekkie was consumed every day prior to venturing out each morning with Al and sidekick , “Sea sick Steve “Raison
First day was a trip round the dams and sampling local hospitality in very warm conditions this being July, looking at birds and fish before finishing up enjoying food and drink out in the busy quaint streets ,tables replacing cars in the evening , not all bad then.
After this we fished every day catching plenty ,taking loads of pics ,plus seeing a huge variety of birds ,all of which Al expertly identified.
Several Mirror Carp 35lb plus were caught ,all huge framed and very wild ,and none with names.
We also had two days in Meddillin after Comizo Barbel, and a few small one graced our net ,along with loads of carp out of a lake. Nightlife was awesome, but beware the mozzies at dusk near the river.

Nothing was too much trouble for Al ,despite the very warm conditions, however we had iced water every day ,and temporary shelters were set up to keep the baking sun off our pale skins.

The week flew by ,and soon we were heading back totally chilled and total Spanish converts .

So here’s a few tips to make your stay as enjoyable as ours . If going in July
1, sunscreen ,Cotton clothes ,Sunhats and polaroids, spare clothes for the evenings
2, Bring your own portable Sat Nav if you are hiring a car ,programmed for Spain ,otherwise they charge 77 Euros .
3,Dont speed ,or you will get nicked !
4,There are two cheap tolls on route ,both near Madrid ,use them ,it’s easier.
5,The first 100 miles to Talarrubias is two laned motorway, after that it is fantastic scenery through stunning country ,with hills, forests and lakes.
    6,Get a car with Aircon .
7,bring reels, line ,leads and terminal tackle ,Al will advise.
8, Try to learn some basic Spanish, the locals will love you for it .
9,Embroil yourself in Spanish culture and ways, and your trip will be amazing .
10, Food and drink is cheap ,plentiful and very good.

Have a great trip ,it’s just a fantastic place , fishing and wildlife is superb and Al will do everything he can to make your stay terrific. Oh ,he speaks brilliant Spanish too !

  30. I have just returned from a weeks fishing with Alan. Over the years I have fished in many countries and used guides,Alan has been the best guide sofar very friendly ,nothing was to much trouble. He arrived on time every day cooked a great breakfast and prepared plenty of food and drink for the day. We visited some wonderful venues and had good catches and a great time. Alan is very knowledgeable angler and Bird watcher . He has plenty of tackle and there was no shortage of bait every thing was included in the package. It was nice to stop off for a beer and tapas on the way back from fishing and chat about the day and plan the next days fishing. Looking forward to my next visit. Many thanks Alan .

  31. well worth a second visit really enjoyed the area and would go back again, the hotel is lovely. Alan is ace looked after us throughout our stay, gave us sound advice and helped out when the fish were playing hard to get. Sue is lovely packed DELICIOUS lunches, drinks were also provided while fishing. Everything was done as promised so top marks to everyone involved. cant wait to go back maybe take my dad.

  32. Many thanks to Alan & Sue for a fantastic week. Although the fishing was below par to its usual high standards I still had weights to over 80lbs!! Add to this a pb Spanish crucian and first-time catches of pike, bass, catfish & turtles (!!!), the fishing did not disappoint. Aside from this, Alan was the perfect host with everything being provided for us as promised and more. Alan listened to what we wanted from the holiday and tailored the venues to our wishes. He not only advised us on pegs but also tactics and stayed with us throughout the day. There were plenty of laughs along the way and we were made to feel at home. We stayed at the Plaza Hotel which was finished to a very high standard, complete with a beer fridge in the room, and we have to say thank you to Jose and Vanessa for looking after us there. The home-made lunches provided by Sue were excellent and tea, coffee, soft drinks and beers were available on the bank throughout the day. There were so many personal touches such as Alan & Sue’s knowledge of the region’s birds, animals and culture. I cannot speak more highly of the holiday and know that it will only be a matter of time before we return again. Cheers (or salud as they say over there).

  33. I suppose you are always slightly sceptical of these fishing holidays – in this case don’t be !! Could not have been better. I was looking for a tour to celebrate my retirement. I had discounted Catfish trips as too much propensity to get ripped off, I came across Alan in my research. Everything was as promised. No hidden extras, no bait charges , and Alan picked us up at Madrid Airport bang on time. The fishing was excellent, through discussion with Alan we fished 5 different venues over 6 days. Spectacular scenery – mountains , valleys, huge dams and lakes and a variety of wildlife not seen at home. We caught a mixed bag, mainly Carp with a few small Barbel thrown in together with those massive Spanish Crucians, our best went over 3 lb. Everything is 2lb plus and fights like no tomorrow. Our biggest Carp went 33lb to the tour non-angler !! Lots of doubles thrown in. Alan brings all your gear in a trailer and helps you set up. He will even spod your swim for you. I would bring a tackle box of your own with Polaris floats, method feeders, hooklength 6 – 12lb honest , hooks etc and snips etc . Alan does provide all tackle but its easier to have your own bits. Fresh lunch and beer in the sun whilst fishing does not get any better !! Alan will pick you up each morning at a time to suit and stay on the bank as long as you want. We chucked the towel in about 5-6pm each evening then there is a nice stop at a bar on the way home for a beer..or two… We stayed at the hotel in Talarrubias which was very well appointed, big rooms available as twins or we paid a 35 euro supplement (5 euro a night !) to have single rooms all en-suite. Very friendly staff in the hotel in Jose behind the bar. By day 3 we had him cooking eggs and bacon after offering us a cake for breakfast on day one !! Price wise you will be surprised if you have never been to rural Spain, its as cheap as chips. There is a good variety of restaurants and you can eat out with a beer or two for 10 euros a head. With every round of drinks you get Tapas (small snacks) so if you have 4 beers you can get a free meal effectively if you are not so hungry. We went late September and it was 30 + degrees every day with one day of cloud in 7. Overall bl–dy marvellous, we will be back hopefully next year. If anyone would like to contact me to discuss or ask questions I am more than happy – markwhitham@sky.com So thanks Alan and Sue we had a blast and Alan get those northern reels sorted out !!! Overall well done for doing what it says on the tin.

  34. A very enjoyable time. Alan took care of everything, all i had to do was catch the fish, and there were some very nice ones too, bass, barbel, tench and lots of carp. I will be going back. and would recommend this place to anyone. Beautiful surroundings as well.

  35. A very enjoyable time, excellent fishing and beautiful surroundings. Alan took care of everything, all i had to do was catch the fish. I would recommend this place to anyone, and i shall definately be coming back

  36. I live in Portugal and had to wait until July for my son to come over on holiday.
We decided to have a “DIY” week and drove the 5 hrs up to Extremadura. All of the above testimonials are accurate – the fishing, scenery, food, beer and Alan’s guidance are really that good. We had a little Car trouble mid way through the week and Alan’s local knowledge proved invaluable. While the car was in the shop Alan even came back for us after having set up another couple of Lads (Terry & Alan) so that we weren’t missing out on some fishing. It is true to say that Alan can not do enough to help. An Excellent week to be repeated. Richard & Richard.

  37. Just returned from the fishing haven that is Extremadura! Our group had a fantastic week with both Alan and Dave and we’re all looking forward to going back. Whilst the fishing was superb, which included a couple of personal bests, it really is a complete package that Alan is offering here and thanks to Alan and Dave’s flexibility, you get out of this experience exactly what you want from it – you can sit back and enjoy the fishing at your own pace, or get the guys on the case to make it more focussed! We went along for some pleasure fishing and we got copious amounts of it, add to that the laughs along the way I think you’ll be hard pushed to beat this little gem in such a beautiful part of Spain! Thanks chaps for your generosity and great company both on the banks and in the evenings, the Londoners will be back again very soon! Look after yourselves!

  38. Alan
What can I say, everything about the trip was just amazing, the fishing, scenery, wildlife, weather and of course bars/eateries. Fantastic choice of fishing venues all stunning and unspoiled, some easy, some hard and challenging but all very rewarding. Plenty of good quality fish in perfect condition, some having never seen a hook before. Add to this your efforts, taking all the hard work out of a fishing holiday, ie: bait prepared, tackle if needed, picked up driven and dropped off, knowledge of different lakes/rivers, pegs, methods and tactics. Also your ability to be present when required, ie photos, weighing fish, advice and lunch, then sit back and let us get on with fishing. An added bonus to the fishing was the scenery with awesome bird and wild life.
Alan thanks for a most enjoyable 6 days fishing and I’ll be back.

    Cheers Nigel

  39. Hi Alan,

At last I’ve finally got round to sending you this e-mail. It’s been mad busy since I got back so apologies for not getting in touch. I just wanted to say on behalf of all the lads a massive thank you for a wonderful week in Spain. Being our first fishing trip away from Ireland I didn’t know exactly what to expect but I really couldn’t have asked for anything better.

The village was beautiful and the locals friendly and forgiving (especially with our limited or in some cases non-existent knowledge of Spanish!). The accommodation was everything we could have wanted and close enough to the village centre, although some of the lads still managed to get lost on the way home at night! The bars were plentiful (and yes we probably did spend too much time in them) and the tapas was great. The scenery and wildlife was spectacular and the lakes were peaceful and picturesque. Admittedly the fishing was difficult at times (probably due to our ability more than anything else) but I still managed a few firsts. I caught my first ever catfish, first ever Spanish Crucian, also my new P.B fish over 20lbs for the first time and my favourite, a red-backed long-necked ninja turtle (that’s what I’m calling it anyway!).

Even the weather was great, slightly warmer than we usually get in Ireland! And the fishing guide wasn’t too bad either, some Yorkshire sounding bloke from the Midlands I think?

All in all it was a fantastic week and I hope we can all make it back there soon (if you’ll have us back???). Thanks for everything Alan we all think you’re a top bloke, except for Terry who still hasn’t forgiven you for catching all the fish from the swim he baited up before you advised him to fish round the corner in the empty bay of despair! Lol..!!!!

Hope to see you again soon,

    Dave.

  40. I think we came at the wrong time of year as there were very few fish about. That didn’t spoil things too much as we had a bloody good laugh. Some breathtaking locations, friendly locals, cheap food and drink. Colder than I expected but still warmer than UK. Really enjoyed El Torre Bar. Will definately return at some point if only to swap jokes with Alan.

  41. First of all, I have four people to thank for a memorable fishing holiday. Firstly Alan, then Ash, Mark and John.
I found this holiday on the web, not knowing what I was letting myself in for. I contacted Alan by email, explaining that I would be a lone traveller, hoping to muck in with another party, and could he accommodate?
He said that he knew just the guys who would welcome me, and I wasn’t disappointed.
The afore mentioned guys were from Sheffield, and were repeat customers of Alan’s.
Talking fishing day and night. (My sort of guys) Oh! and they enjoyed the odd drink.
    THE FISHING
A few years ago, I spent a miserable week in France, in the rain, in a bivvy and caught sod all, and it cost me a fortune. Not so with Alan.
On the first day it was close to 40 degrees, and I caught my first lake barbell besides many small carp.
I went on later that week to catch a crucian around 6lb. I have never seen one in the UK that size, never mind catching one. I went on during that week catching them mostly around that size.
Alan took us to what he terms as crazy lake. It is stocked with what must be thousands of small carp, but if you can get through them there are specimens. I was snapped off, using 15lb terminal tackle. There are real monsters in there.

What a ten days I spent there. Twenty minutes rain during the whole time there, but that’s another story. Loads of fish. Beautiful scenery. Fantastic wildlife. Serenity.
Plenty of food and drink and a great host.
I am already planning my next visit in two years time.
    THANKYOU ALAN.

  42. What can I say,we had an absolute ball.Alan is a fantastic host,a great laugh and knows where the fish are. Myself and 3 friends spent a week with Alan who looked after our every need, nothing was a problem, this coupled with the fact one of our party was a complete novice Alan had all the time and patience to make sure he enjoyed himself as much as the rest of us did ! Anyone thinking about going but not sure ! My advice,Do It !!! Cheers Alan hope to see you again soon mate !

  43. Alan
I said last year (I’ll be back) and after a year of anticipation and expectation we all returned and of course were not disappointed. The fishing had changed somewhat, that’s fishing, always a new challenge. But with your knowledge and expertise you put us on amazing venues with quality fishing. Not easy with 5 guys all wanting lots of fish. Personally I’d a total weight for 6 days of approx 460lb and the 2 days I was taming wild carp with bags of 180lb & 150lb, a PB wildie of 19-10 was truly awesome. Again your service and hard work is all appreciated which gives us the time for total enjoyment on and off the bank. As a pleasure fisherman it was all a absolute pleasure.
Cheers mate and see you soon.
    Nigel

  44. Alan thanks for making my one week of fishing in Spain a special one I will never forget.
Your knowledge of fishing and the local area hot spots was fantastic, not to mention the bird life . I am all ready planing to come back for some more in the very near future.
    Steve

  45. Hi Alan,

What an amazing week! We have just got home and settled and already talking about next year.

on arrival we was greeted by Alan who was chatty, friendly and very welcoming, on route to Extremadura Alan was showing us some beautiful sites and pointing out some of the many birds that nest in Spain which was amazing to see!

Our week of fishing was the best we have ever had, we beat our personal best in weight and caught a variety of different fish including, Carp, Barbel and crusions. Alan helped us with many tips and taught us so much about fishing – his knowledge is amazing! Alan was well prepared every day and had every bit of equipment you could possibly need. Everyday we had a lovely lunch made which I must say Alan can make a mean baguette! The house had all we needed and was very spacious, ideal for couples and groups, it’s very close to the supermarkets and cafes.

We stayed in a lovely hostel to fish on a beautiful lake/river for a night which I would recommend, the scenery is beautiful.
I cannot recommend this holiday enough if you like fishing, sun, amazing scenery and and lovely company. We had a laugh every day with Alan and enjoyed his company very much, the effort and work Alan commits to his guests is second to none, he had long days and works very hard to ensure that everything runs smooth and the holiday is the best it can be.

Thank you so much Alan, I will email the dates for next year. Hope you have a fabulous summer and for anyone planning on visiting have a great time catching those fish. You will not be disappointed with this trip!

  46. Hi Alan
Just got home from a fantastic weeks fishing with you in Extremadura! So much more than i expected, a truly stunning part of the world and a wonderfull experience for myself as a novice carp angler (im a pike man) real un-spoilt spain and a guide who could’nt have done more for me and the two steve’s
Time passed so quickly and the amount of venues were un-rivaled, it really felt like we were taking part in somthing special.
A 21.5lb common on the second day was a pb for me followed by many more crucian, common and mirrors!
A massive thanks from all three of us for an experience we will never forget in extremadura, and on a personal note thanks for showing me how to catch those beauties!!
See you next year for fish, beer,(hangovers)and sunshine!!

    Thanks again mate, Tony T

  47. I recently had the pleasure of joining Alan on the water for two days of great fishing. Alan is truly dedicated to his work! My wife and I had the experience of a lifetime. How many people can say they have caught a 38 pound Carp? After our trip with Alan, I can say I have. Alan is professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed making conversation with him about fishing and wildlife. If you seek the adventure of a lifetime, than look no further, Alan has you covered. I will be contacting him again soon for another trip. Until the next time Alan, fair winds and following seas!

  48. Hi Alan,

Just a short note to say thank you for your dedicated efforts on our recent holiday.

You really work hard to put your clients on the fish, and even though conditions were tricky, we still managed some nice fish.

I liked the reservoir fishing, something I have not done for years, and the Spanish Crucian I had of 5lb 12oz was a memorable fish for me.

John’s 4lb plus Black Bass was memorable too, what a fight it gave him, and the method of capture on sweetcorn must be a first!

The birding was great, some of the venues gave the best of both worlds for both fishing and bird spotting.

Enjoyed our time together and hope to repeat the experience before too long.

    Keith

  50. This was my third year in a row fishing with Alan and his team and as usual I am completely satisfied. I’ve been here for 8 days and caught something ever day. I’ve broken my personal best carp 3 times over not to mention some cracking specimens. Alan even accommodated me when I wanted to visit one of Spains most important religious sites and treated me to a wonderful day out. There are many ancient historic and religious sites in the local area If you want to go exploring. Not to mention the countless different species of eagles and raptors. I’m all ready planning trip number 4. Thank you once again Alan for your services and another great holiday. Looking forward to next year already.

  51. Alan and Rob are stars. I have taken some ideas home from Alan’s methods and will use them at home. The Barbel and Crucian I hoped for were not obliging but we had loads of carp from both river and lakes. (Alan did explain that the best time for barbel is in the cooler months) Broke my pb 3 times in the space of a week They are both very knowledgable about the venues and methods required, When I listened to them my catch rate sooon improved. Nothing too complicated and Robs 38lb 9oz carp caught on feeder rod with 5 pieces of corn on a hair rig proved that. Well done mate. Brilliant holiday. Would love to return in the cooler months and go for the barbel. Best regards
    Chris B
